This Week in Dumb MMA Stuff

Welcome to Leg Kick TKO, a MMA blog that’s more of a joke than Kimbo Slice.

Fights - Hey, UFC fights are back, yay!  Plus Bellator and SFL (PUNCH KICK WOW) as always (Well, not always, Bellator's season ends in a month, and I don't know if SFL is going to literally run every week or not).

Bellator 80 - On this edition of Bellator Fighting Championships, the finals for the Heavyweight and Featherweight tournaments were set up, plus former champion and self-proclaimed "Baddest Man on the Planet", Joe Warren returned to see if he would get knocked out for the third fight in a row.

DeRocher vs. Krahl

Ryan DeRocher punched Taylor Krahl, and now Taylor has to crawl everywhere he goes.  I am the worst.

Vedepo vs. Bernhard

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

This is some crazy stuff.  Bernhard throws a kick and slips, so Vedepo dives into guard, and gets stuck in a triangle.  Vedepo jams his shin and knee all up in Bernhard's neck, and eventually postures up enough and the pressure causes Bernhard to tap out.

So, ladies and gentlemans, here is the Vedepo choke.  If works perfectly against dorks too dumb to let go of a crappy triangle to avoid getting themselves choked out.

Check out more Bellator, SFL, UFC and other fights, plus lots of news after the jump!

Alexandre vs. Quayhagen

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

I've talked about Cosmo Alexandre a few times in the past and how rad he is.  Unfortunately, Quayhagen did let himself get punched around a bunch in hilarious fashion.  Alexandre still won an unanimous decision, but I was hoping for something a little cooler.

Souza vs. Otani

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Good gravy, Cristiano Souza punched the mess outta Robert Otani.  Like, dang, yo, just straight up face punched all to bits.

Cooper vs. Cobb

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Cooper beat up Cobb for pretty much 15 minutes straight, and it was pretty fun to watch.  Also, chicken Cooper is better than corn on the Cobb.

Volkov vs. Queiroz

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

In the battle of Tall Guys, slightly taller, much more Russianier fighter beat the way more Brazilish guy with some good punches, and some pretty questionable refereeing, as Queiroz got warned for leading in with his head (A legal tactic), and got stood up after about 15 seconds into a takedown that pretty much led to the knockout.

Martinez vs. Fabiano

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

YAY RAD MARTINEZ!  I really hope and want Rad Martinez to win all of the Bellators, I don't even care that he is a grown man named Rad, his life is too upsetting to me to consider him losing.

Warren vs. Evinger

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Joe Warren did a heck of a lot of grapples against Owen Evinger (One of Tanya Evinger's baby brothers!).  Like, maybe all of the grapples, I'm not certain, I don't have a catalog of grapples handy.

SFL 8 - Super Fight League keeps running weekly shows at an insane pace, with the standard "one decision, everything else is a stoppage" format.  Slight change, though, as only the decision fight left the first round.

Yadav vs. Singh

Pretty quick submission victory for Sandeep Yadav over Palwinder Singh.

Chuhan vs. Idrisi

Manoj Chuhan took almost four minutes to dispatch Alam Idrisi with punches because Super Fight League doesn't mess around.

Kandare vs. Singh

Bharat Kandare choked out Pushpender Singh in 80 seconds because HURRY UP, NEXT FIGHT, NEXT FIGHT!

Bhat vs. Bhat (WHAT?)

Sachin Bhat submitted Nikhil Bhat in less than 40 seconds.  TOO MANY BHATS, I AM CONFUSED.

Lockwood vs. Deepika

Tracy Lockwood beat Deepika with a submission in the first round because SFL needs to be out of the arena in like twenty minutes, please finish quickly!

McKenna vs. Singh

Tom McKenna submitted Hardeep Singh with a Brabo choke, and it almost took a whole 5 minute round to do it!  I like Brabo chokes, any kind of arm-y grabby chokes are interesting to me.

Troyer vs. Novikov

In the longest fight of the night, John Troyer defeated Vasily Novikov by decision, meaning the fight lasted 15 minutes.  That must feel like an eternity if everything beforehand lasted on average, 2:15.  That's 6 2/3 times longer than the average fight!  But it was just 15 minutes.  Super Fight League, I love you.

UFC on Fuel 6 (Or UFC on Fuel:  Macao, or UFC on Fuel:  Franklin vs. Le) - TUF fights are usually bad, so it was great to have real, actual UFC fights again.  The only problem is that it was way early.  The bunch of decisions was a little frustrating, but I didn't mind them too much.

Caceres vs. Tezuka

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Alex Caceres won a decision over Motonobu Tezuka, and this was a cool thing he did in the fight.

Kim vs. Thiago

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

As I predicted (6-3 total, with 3 correct method of victory picks!), Dong Hyun Kim out grappled Paulo Thiago to a decision victory.  I didn't anticpate "Stun Gun" to throw double axe handles during the fight, though it was pretty neat!

Silva vs. Nedkov

Poor Stucky Nedkov.  He probably had the fight close to in the bag, as I thought he edged out rounds one and two, but then Thiago Silva remembered he knew how to wrestle, and wrestle he did.  Silva got mount on Stanislav, then hopped to the side to finish things off with an arm triangle choke (Another choke/submission I like).

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Then Silva got creepy-scary with his post-fight celebration.  I'm pretty sure he's in your house right now, waiting to do a murder to you.

Le vs. Franklin

I HATE THIS DUMB SPORT SO MUCH!

REALLY HATE IT SOMETIMES!

SO STUPID, WHY DO I WATCH IT?

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

AT LEAST THERE ARE FLIPZ

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

AND CONVULSING DUDES.  WHATEVER, I'M GONNA GO WATCH THE FIRST CUNG LE VERSUS SCOTT SMITH FIGHT AND LE VERSUS WANDERLEI SILVA.  BLARG.

Grab Bag - As always, here's a collection of random fights found across the internets and jammed together here.

Bird vs Barry

Sheila Bird is memorable for choking Kim Couture into unconsciousness while the referee apparently was taking a brief nap.  Now Bird is back, and knocked out Christina Barry in just 11 seconds.  PLEASE DO NOT DO MMAS TO ME, SHEILA BIRD!

Brody Roberts

Here's Brody Roberts punching a dude very quickly.  Rad!

Phoenix Jones

I usually wouldn't post video of "street MMA" because it's awful and terrible and I don't like implying a connection between MMA and bum fights.  I will make a small exception for actual MMA dudes doing fights in a street (Technically this one is on a sidewalk).  Phoenix Jones is a vigilante/real life superhero, lesser known as Ben Fodor, mixed martial artist (And brother to Strikeforce fighter, Caros Fodor).  Apparently Washington state allows for mutual combat between two consenting parties without repercussion, as police officers observe the fight and do nothing.  Fodor uses a lot of leg kicks, then knocks the guy out.  Good job using your MMA training to defeat a belligerent asshole!

Old Man, Has Strength

Fifty-six year old Don "Grandpa" Williams fought his last bout recently.  I had no idea there even was such a person named Don "Grandpa" Williams until this week, but I'm kind of sad he's retiring to get his knees replaced.  He comes to the cage, holding a cane aloft, and gets the submission victory with a nice arm triangle.  Farewell, "Grandpa"!

Beebe vs. Wright

Chase Beebe has fought in WEC and Bellator.  Here he is taking out Javon Wright in short order.  I wonder if he (Or his baby brother)

Baby Muay Thais

In Thailand, kids start doing Muay Thai to each other pretty much seconds after birth.  Here's a fighter named Pee winning by body kick knockout.  You can't judge them, it is a different culture!

News - A few interesting pieces of news, some of which involves a murderer.

Bellator is Awful, Then Kind of Good

Bellator Fighting Championship has gotten some criticism in the past for the fighters they have signed.  The picked up Brett Rogers after he had some issues with domestic violence, and they're currently advertising the fact that they have, just released from prison, War Machine.  However, it could be argued that those guys are semi-known fighters, and Bellator's just trying to carve out their share of the market.  Besides, people with assault charges have fought for the UFC in the past.

Unfortunately for Bellator, one of their more recent signees is Dan McGuane, who was charged with manslaughter after he and his brother, both around 6'4" and 200 pounds, beat to death a guy that was 5'8" and 155 pounds.  Fortunately, after word about McGuane got out, and a Ban Dan McGuane website popped up, Bellator announced they were removing Dan from the card.  I'm glad that he's not getting paid to fight, but I he didn't get signed in the first place.

Rousey in the UFC, Strikeforce Gone

Welp, Strikeforce had a semi-decent run, but by the end of January, 2013, it will be no more (Though some of the title fights made negative sense).  UFC is going to absorb most of Strikeforce's talent, and that includes current Women's Bantamweight champion, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey.  This is a big deal since Dana White has said in the past he'd never have female fighters in the UFC.  Of course, Rousey's manager says there's been no change and Ronda is still a Strikeforce employee, so who knows what the heck's going on.  Guess we'll just have to wait until January.

Five, Five Dollar, Five Dollar Foot-Long Gets You 25 to Life

Badr Hari is a very good K-1 kickboxer.  He's also a bit of a volatile, violence monster outside of the ring.  After spending months in prison in Holland, Hari was recently released, despite the fact that he's fled the country in the past on other criminal charges.  He was ordered not to interact with any of the witnesses in the case and to avoid the catering business.  Most people assumed this meant he needed to avoid nightclubs and such (Where his most recent incident occurred), but it's apparently a bit more far reaching than that.  Hari was re-arrested for violating his probation by eating a sandwich at a bar.

Cung Le's Wrap Hurts My Heart

Cung Le now has a deli wrap that sounds horrifying.  The only question is will it cause more damage than what he did to Rich Franklin in Macau?

Yeah, I am frightened by this thing.

Guess that's about it for dumb stuff in MMA (Or dumb MMA stuff) this week.  UFC 154 is on Saturday, so expect an event primer for that soon.  Plus maybe one of these days I'll talk about a fight that actually ends with a leg kick TKO.  Doubtful, but you never know!
