This Week in Dumb MMA Stuff

Welcome to Leg Kick TKO, a MMA blog that’s spiraling downwards more than Drew Fickett.

Fights - In addition to the Bellator, Super Fight League (PUNCH KICK WOW) and random grab bag fights, there was also World Series of Fighting 1 going down on Saturday.  Hooray for new MMA organizations!

Bellator 79 - There were some vicious beatings doled out to people with ridiculous choices in personal grooming (So, pretty standard for a MMA event).

Minakov vs. Starcencov

Bellator has a ton of Russian fighters, and sometimes, they get matched up (Though Starcencov is technically Russian-Canadian).  Vitaly Minakov punched Vladimir Starcencov in the face for a while until Vladimir fell down.

Ford vs. Baker

In the first of two "guy what looks dumb gets beaten up" fights, Ryan Ford punched the ridiculous out of Kyle Baker's mustache and bald head on the way to a unanimous decision victory.

Check out more from Bellator, SFL, WSoF, and much more after the jump!

Lima vs. Ortiz

This is the second "let's pulp a dumb guy" fight, and Douglas Lima was more than up to the challenge of punching Jacob Ortiz for three rounds.  Ortiz valiantly (Or maybe just dumbly) fought on, getting stopped with just 10 seconds remaining in a fight he was probably losing badly on the score cards.

Shamhalaev vs. Richman

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

In a Featherweight tournament semi-final, Shahbulat Shamhalaev knocked out Mike Richman in under two minutes.  I like Shamhalaev, but I've got to admit, his name is a bit of a nightmare.

Hale vs. Santos

I was calling this fight Dick Hale versus Dick Hurtz, but luckily, there were no groin shots in this Heavyweight tournament semi-final.

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Hale survived an onslaught from Santos early, managed to recover, and finished Santos with a tiny little baby punch.

Super Fight League 7 - As has been the case since SFL moved to weekly cards, one fight went to a decision and everything else got finished by round two.

Grewal vs. Varma

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Narender Grewal did something I've never seen before.  He submitted Siddharth Varma with an arm-in rear naked choke (Though maybe I just haven't seen the numerous illegal, underground MMA matches taking place in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY).

Kooheji vs. Barve

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Hamza Kooheji finished off Swapnil Barve very early in round two with a guillotine choke after setting it up with some nice Muay Thai clinch knees.

Kadian vs. Abas

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Puja Kadian had a cool slam and finished Walaa Abas with ground and pound for the TKO victory.

Kumar vs. Singh

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Anup Kumar choked out Varinder Singh early into round one with a rear naked choke.

Singh vs. Pereira

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Daniel Amar Singh made crazy short work of Michael Pereira, ending the fight in 0:23 with a standing guillotine choke.  I sometimes wonder if half the fighters in SFL know what submissions are and how to defend them.  Then I just watch another quick fight and don't care.

Page vs. Tantawy

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Michael Page is a tremendously talented kickboxer that makes his scrub opponents looks hilariously inept.  He's basically the British, B-league equivalent to Anderson Silva.  Here, he's punching Haitham Tantawy on the way to a first round TKO by way of doctor stoppage due to cuts.

World Series of Fighting 1 - The inagural event (DUH) of the Ray "Sugarfoot" (Nothing to do with the King of the Hill barbecue joint) Sefo-backed organization was pretty good, except there were issues with the preliminary fights.

Cavalcante vs. O'Brien

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante did horrible things to T.J. O'Brien's leg in order to get a submission victory.  Horrible, disturbing things that should never be done to any kind of legs.

Burkman vs. Harris

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

In a battle of former UFC guys, Josh Burkman defeated Gerald Harris despite spending 2:27 in a guillotine choke in round two.  Of course, all that time trying to get the tap pretty much drained Harris's arms, leaving them dead for the third round.

Spong vs. Bartlett

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

It's being reported that seven other opponents turned down the fight with Spong, who was making his professional MMA debut.

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Of course, he had over 100 professional kickboxing fights under his belt, so he wasn't a complete amateur, though he will have to learn that there's no 8-count in MMA and don't just walk away from a downed opponent unless the referee intervenes.

Johnson vs. Linderman

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Anthony Johnson knocked D.J. Linderman into an apparent brief death after it looked like Johnson got poked in the eye.

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Referee Herb Dean didn't pause the action, so Johnson was forced to stop things for good with a devastating right hand.  Thankfully Linderman got up shortly after the punch.

Arlovski vs. Cole

Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA

Andrei Arlovski punched Devin Cole in the head, and that made me really happy because Cole is kind of a big creep.

Grab Bag - Bunch of random fights from around the globe.  Yay, fights!

Baby Fights!

Kolbe "Lil Sarge" De Los Angeles took on Yahir Nieto, and despite being outweighed by 40 pounds, won with a rear naked choke.  Did I mention that both fighters look to be about ten years old?  This seems kind of shady.

Giant vs. G-Money

This is a nice palate cleanser from the child's MMA.  Here we have Giant and G-Money, both in stocking feet because why not?  I was not expecting Giant to survive on the ground, or to have slick submission skills of his own, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Charles Kessinger

Charles Kessinger was paralyzed in a MMA fight in March 2011 after his opponent struck him with an illegal elbow to the spine.  On October 13, 2012, Kessinger made his pro debut, which he wins by ground and pound.  Congratulations on the recovery and victory, Charles!

News - Not too much in the way of news this week (Mostly because, as I've said in the past, I'm too lazy to spend fifty paragraphs talking about how Fighter A is hurt, so now Fighter B is matched up against Fighter C, which does dominate a lot of the MMA "news" world), just a few videos of note to share.

Chris Weidman's House is Gone

UFC Middleweight contender Chris Weidman's house suffered quite a bit of damage as a result of Sandy this past week.

THE BANG BROS

Time to add some levity to this post!  I don't really cover The Ultimate Fighter reality show, mostly because they are exhibition fights.  I might do seasonal recaps, though, because TUF is always good for at least one or two moments of pure insanity every season.  Thanks to Julian Lane, it's more like two moments every episode.  I thin context kind of ruins the moment, so I'll just let this stand for itself.

Just kidding!  Of course I'm going to explain the hell out of this!  Mohawk guy is Julian Lane, and he's an insane idiot.  He revealed that his wife is currently pregnant and working two jobs to support the family while Julian is on TUF, trying to win a UFC contract.  Julian lost his fight, and barring injury, is out of the competition, and the running for the contract.  He now spends his time away from training getting drunk and trying to instigate fights with the other house mates.  Prior to the clip, he had been trying to get Dom Waters to fight him in the house, which is a rules violation and would get both guys kicked off the show.

Riddle/Randleman BEEF

Kevin Randleman hates Matt Riddle, and is more than willing to scream about it.  According to Randleman, Riddle owes Kevin some money and this apparently lead to Riddle saying something disrespectful about Randleman's wife, so now Kevin "the Monster" Randleman flips out whenever Matt "Deep Waters" Riddle's name is brought up (Again, according to Randleman).  RAGE!

Huerta for ALPHA NAIL

Roger Huerta is currently endorsing Alpha Nail, a nail polish for DUDES that is just TOO EXTREME for a delicate lady's fingernails.  Besides, this is scientifically formulated to increase a man's SWAGGER coefficient to increase the likelihood that he'll end up BANGING CHICKS.  Also, lol, the matte colors include "cocaine" and "benjamins".

Well, I guess that's about it for this week.  UFC on Fuel in Macau is on Saturday (Morning), so I'll try and get an Event Primer up for that.
