Fights - As always, fights happened, and I'm here to give a brief synopsis of the cool parts, and whatnot.
Bellator 78 - As usual, Bellator Fighting Championships had a good event on Friday that was kind of marred by some bad refereeing in the co-main and main event.

Parlo Clips Combs's Beard

Mikkel Parlo finished off Jared Combs in just under four minutes with a TKO.
Check out more Bellator fights, Super Fight League (BOOM, POW, PUNCH, KICK, WOW!), some more randomly grabbed fights, plus some fight news, including Halloween costumes after the jump.
Horne Harms Houston

Billy Horne needed just 3:30 to end Trey Houston's night and undefeated record with a rear naked choke. The best part is now Houston's nickname can be used to mock him. Yes, Trey, "That Just Happened".
Butcher Chops Heads

Jason Butcher fought Shaun Asher and finished him off with a guillotine choke in just over 90 seconds into the first round. Nice stuff from Butcher.
Gurgel Busts Up Noland
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Zoila Frausto Gurgel and Casey Noland had a pretty fun fight that saw Gurgel cut Noland with some sharp elbows en route to a unanimous decision victory. I would have liked to see Gurgel on the main card instead of the prelims, especially since she's the reigning Women's Strawweight champion (Though this fight was at Flyweight), but it was a good cap to the prelims.
Rogers Smashes Steele
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Brian Rogers is now officially a full-time fighter, no longer teaching on the side. This is bad news for the rest of the Bellator Middleweight divsion, since he was knocking out guys while holding down a day job. He didn't manage to finish Dominique Steele, though, but won a convincing unanimous decision.

Also, let the record show that Steele is WAY GROSS.
Strauss Submits Robinson
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Daniel Strauss is the most recent Featherweight tournament champion, but he's got to wait for Pat Curran and Patricio Freire to fight before he gets his title shot. To keep busy, he ran through Alvin Robinson, a black belt under Royce Gracie that has never submitted anyone half-way competent on the ground (Also, this marks Robinson's sixth submission loss).
Koreshkov Kills Zaromskis
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
In the first Welterweight tournament semi-final match, Andrey Koreshkov utilized his reach advantage to beat the crap out of Marius Zaromskis. Andrey dropped Marius and followed up with punches while referee Jerry Poe apparently got distracted by some mischevious gnomes and let Zaromskis take at least seven unnecessary punches to the head and facial region. I can't really faul Koreshkov here, as the standard is to stop only when the referee intervenes.

It reminded me of another attrociously late stoppage in Bellator, the time Pat Curran punched Joe Warren for what felt like an entire round until finally the fight was called.
Good Does Punches, Tsarev Does Fallsy-Downsies
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
In the main event and second Welterweight semi-final match, Lyman Good beat Michail Tsarev in the second round. It looked like Tsarev got poked in the eye and made a motion to clue in referee Greg Franklin to this. Franklin didn't see the foul and didn't pause the fight so Good continued his attack and kept punching Tsarev. Again, I can't fault Good here, as the order to all fighters is "protect yourself at all times". Some referees allow fighters to essentially call their own fouls, but in this instance, Greg Franklin is not one of those referee.
Super Fight League 6 - SFL now moves at warp speed, as only one fight out of seven went the distance, and only one other made it past the first round. Another reminder, you can catch all of the Super Fight League events right here.
Tokas vs. Chauhan
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Mohit Tokas started the event off by beating Love Chauhan in just 2:25.
Chovan vs. Rahaman
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Suresh Chovan didn't even need a full mintue before he submitted Motirul Rahaman with a shoulder choke. I don't really know why, but I really like wonky chokes like this. I could watch people get Von Flue'd all day.
Kumar vs. Babu
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Kapil Kumar was a bit slower, taking nearly 8 full minutes before getting a TKO stoppage over Sharath Babu, but he did have some rad slams.
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Lots of rad slams indeed.
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Kumar finished off Babu by punching him in the butt, a sound tactic!
Singh vs. Das
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Gurvinder Singh finished Subrata Das with a neck crank in the first round. Neck cranks aren't too common outside of lower level stuff like SFL, but I appreciate them in all forms (If I weren't a lazy idiot, I'd have a post about Chan Sung Jung's twister over Leonard Garcia)
Petkar vs. Solanki
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Abhijeet Petkar took on and punched out Harish Solanki in under two minutes. SFL is so fun!
Schneider vs. Saber
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Colleen Schneider elbowed her way to a TKO victory over Aya Saeid Saber in just under four minutes. Elbow stoppages, yay!
Da Silva vs. Foupa-Pokam
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Claudio Henrique Da Silva went the distance against Xavier Foupa-Pokam in the main event, winning a unanimous decision.

Let the Boys be Boys and Just Slam!
Gif by https://twitter.com/ZProphet_MMA |
Here is the information I know about what is happening here: The two men are Anatoliy Didenko and Alexey Krupnyakov at an event called ProFC 43 - Baltic Challenge and that Krupnyakov ultimately wins the match by guillotine choke at 1:10 in round 1. I imagine it is Didenko doing the actual slamming considering the way he gives up his neck, but I don't know that for certain. Honestly, though, it doesn't really matter who is slamming whom, just that some glorious slamming is going on.
Double Knock-Out
Double KOs are usually pretty cool, but this one just seems so sad, but thankfully some heroic DJ decides to play "We are the Champions" to lighten the mood. Good job!
Hit Me!
Similar to hands down stupidity, but even dumber. Good job, dummy!
Drew Fickett is Making Me Sad
Drew Fickett started his career 12-0, from 1999 through 2000. By the time he reached the UFC in 2005, he was 24-2. His last fight in the UFC was in 2007 and he was 30-5. By the end of 2009, he was 36-13, while 2010 saw him finish at 40-13. Since 2011, up to this fight, he is now 42-19, and I really want him to retire before he does too much lasting damage to his body.
News - Here's some stuff that happened in the world of MMA that isn't fights.
Costume Time! - With Halloween coming up, lots of fighters are showing off their costumes, so here they are
Seth "Venom" Petruzelli
Ryan "Yes, I went to Arizona State, why do you ask?" Bader
Antonio "Frankenstein's Monster" Silva
Felice "Cammy" Herrig
Alistair "Venom" Overeem
And the proof that's it's really Overeem.
Joe "Ghostbuster" Lauzon
Quinton "Batman" Jackson
Rich Guy Problems!
Dana White, president of the UFC, recently said that the UFC is pulling all events from the Palms Resort and Casino (The Palms typically hosts the finale of each season of The Ultimate Fighter) because his credit line was recently halved. So now the staff of the casino won't be benefiting from the five-figure tips he regularly lays out because the new owners had to tighten the purse strings a little and made White feel less special.
That is literally everything that has happened this week in MMA. Nothing else to talk about, at all. Nope. Don't forget, every Friday is Super Fight League and Bellator. Watch free MMA (It is Best MMA)
