Fights - UFC is back, yay! I did super awful in my predictions, but I'm not that concerned, there is current A-League MMA in my world again! The fight section is going to be pretty much all UFC 152 related.
Baczynski vs. Thoresen

Baczynski dropped Simeon Thoresen with a nice overhand left to help start out
the night.Clearly the “Polish Pistola”
was a higher caliber opponent for Thoresen (I AM AN AWFUL PUNSTER, PLEASE
HELP!)
Magalhaes vs. Pokrajac
Vinny
Magalhaes finished Igor Pokrajac with a beautiful armbar.Igor complained the next day about getting
submitted, whining that he didn’t want a grappling contest, but a fight, yet he’s
the doofus that initiated a trip takedown on the jiu-jitsu blackbelt.In the paraphrased, garbled words of Scott
Steiner, I’ve got no sympy for Igor Pokrajac.

UFC 152 is coming up on Saturday (YAY, FINALLY LIVE UFC FIGHTS AGAIN!) and it features two title fights. I am so crazy excited, it is crazy how excited I am.

though I would like for Watson to win (based solely on him being born down in the West Texas town of El Paso, though I'm not sure if he fell in love with a Mexican girl there)

Fights - There were no major fights, and there will never be any more major fights again (I'll get to this in the news section), so let's look at some Z-grade fights.
K-1 is a kickboxing organization, and I really don't pay enough attention to it. They put on an event this past Saturday, so I decided to watch it, and I realized I need to pay more attention to K-1. The fights were fun and exciting, with lots of finishes. Since the format is only 3x3-minute rounds, the fighters don't waste time and just attack. Here's Part 1 and Part 2 for your viewing pleasure.
Brett Bassett vs Mike Ling
Here's two guys fighting in Jordan, but not for very long. Bassett catches a kick from Ling and drops him with an overhand right.
Paulo Filho vs Murilo Rua
Paulo Filho had a rematch with Murilo Rua in Brazil that was six years in the making. Filho won the first fight by unanimous decision. The years have not been kind to either man, as Filho has battled mental health issues and drug addiction, while even before the first fight, Rua has suffered a lot of brain trauma from multiple knockouts. This fight doesn't go the distance, nor does it make it out of the first round or even minute. There's some controversy about the stoppage by referee Mario Yamasaki, but I'd much rather have an early stoppage than someone like Rua take undue punishment. Of course, to me, the real issue is either man being allowed to fight, but Brazil is crazy about MMA
News - Lots of news items, most of them are pretty depressing for fight fans.
Urijah Faber Sups Upon the Metaphysical Milkshake
Here is former WEC Featherweight champion Urijah "the California Kid" Faber on Rainn "Dwight Schrute" Wilson's van-based talk show, Metaphysical Milkshake, talking mostly about his book, or rather, his "mem-wire", The Laws of the Ring. Urijah is a fairly charismatic guy, and he's not a horrible person, so I'm always happy to see him do well, even if I mock his Team Alpha Male group's methods. And, of course, I can't forget Urijah's vacation experience in Bali that resulted in the line "It takes more than twelve Balinese with weapons to kill the California Kid"
Potential Warning - Semi-Gross Images
Chris Weidman had elbow surgery to remove some animal cracker chunks that somehow got lodged inside his arm, so of course he had to share the photographic evidence. Also included is a picture of Mark Munoz's similar elbow-chunk haul from earlier in the year. Weidman should make a decent recovery to fight for the number one contender spot if there actually are any more UFC fights ever again.
End Potential Gross Images
As for the constant comments about no more UFC, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Jose Aldo have both pulled out of their fights at UFC 153 due to injuries. I fully expect this to continue until all fighters are hurt all the time and this "sport" of MMA is canceled entirely.
Don't forget, TUF 16 premieres this Friday. Luckily everything has already been taped, so it's a thing that we will get to see!
MMA is a violent sport,
with knockouts, joint damage and cuts.Lots and lots of cuts that spew, spray, drip, gush, and leak blood.That’s what Splish-Splash Blood Bath is all
about, showcasing some of the more horrible cuts and blood-soaked fights. It will only be a monthly feature, for the benefit of more delicate readers. What better way to start this gross feature
than with the fight Dana White has called the bloodiest he’s ever seen and has
refused to have it rebroadcast (Thanks random YouTube person for flouting
copyright laws!).
Jay Hieron is a wrestler,
Jonathan Goulet is a kickboxer with a weak chin and the dumbest hair in MMA.Blood-wise, the first round is uneventful, as
Hieron keeps Goulet on the mat with his wrestling prowess.Fight-wise, it’s a good round, with Hieron
threatening a few times with a rear naked choke, and landing a nice slam at the
end of the round.
Round two is when things
pick up.Goulet opens up Hieron with a
knee about thirty seconds in, and it starts bleeding so quickly that Goulet
backs off, trying to draw the ref’s attention.Hieron gets another takedown, so now he’s dripping blood all over Goulet.The ref intervenes to get a doctor to check
out the cut, but it’s not too bad at this point, so Hieron gets put back on top
of Goulet.Hieron is probably nervous
about the fight getting stopped later, so he fishes for a guillotine, but can’t
hold on to it.Goulet pretty much just
targets Hieron’s face-wound from the bottom.Goulet actually looks frustrated a few times whilst on his back from all
the blood covering his arms, torso, neck and face.Towards the end of the round, Hieron slides
around to take Goulet’s back, but slips right off.Hieron kicks Goulet off and attempts to get
back to his feet, but basically runs his head into another knee from Goulet.The round ends with Goulet on top of Hieron,
landing ground and pound while Hieron’s head blood pools around him.
Between rounds, famed
cutman Stitch Duran puts a napkin to Hieron’s face and then packs it with
roughly six tubs of Vaseline.Hieron
clinches up with Goulet, takes his back standing, and muscles Goulet into the
fence.Goulet punches Hieron in his cut
a few times, they separate, and Goulet lands another knee to the face.The ref steps in to have the cut evaluated
again, and this time the doctor decides to stop the fight.
What Did We Learn?
Knees are vehemently
opposed to blood, especially face blood, staying inside the body (So cover your
knees if you’re going to be walking around).
MMA doctors need to see
at least three pints of blood on the mat before stopping a fight.
If you are a wrestler, learn another discipline so you don't just bleed all over your opponent and end up losing the fight because you can't finish

Fights – Once again,
there were a fair number of events this past week, and at least two cool
moments out of all the fights.
UFC on Fox 4 was a very
entertaining card (Free MMA best MMA!).
Here’s what was the most impressive.
Moraga vs. Gomez
Flyweight fights are
always fun, even if they don’t wear their traditional gnome outfits. Moraga finishes off Gomez with strikes
against the cage, proving that Flyweights pack some power.
